Top 5 Ways on How To Make A Synthetic Wig Look Natural
The use of synthetic wigs is a good way to change your look, but synthetic wigs and synthetic hair extensions may look fake at times. The good news is you can do something to make synthetic wigs and hair extensions look more realistic.
How To Make A Synthetic Wig Look Real?
Washing Synthetic Hair Wig
- Wash the wig with Fabric Softener
Before the wash, you will need lukewarm water and some all laundry detergent. First, fill the bathtub up til a couple of inches, then add a bit of detergent to it. Put the wig into the soapy water and let it soak for a minute. Proceed to rinse the wig in lukewarm water, and smoosh in a towel to have excess water. After that, apply some fabric softener to the wig, then rub the softener through the damp wig to soften the hair. Try rub through every strand so that the wig is thoroughly treated.
How To Remove Shine From Synthetic Wig
- Cut Shine
Baby powder can help make your wig’s luster dull. Have half a handful of baby powder dusted on your wig before brushing through the faux locks using your fingertips or with a wig brush.
The less messy alternative to baby powder is the use of dry shampoo. While your wig may not be messy from the use of baby powder on it, your bathroom counter top is the real victim. You just have to apply some dry shampoo on each layer of the wig, and you would notice the artificial factitious shine is gone.
The hairline of a wig usually ruins the camouflage of the wig in your hair. Fortunately, there are workarounds for this.
Bangs/Fringe – You don’t need a full fringe but just some kind of sweeping bangs that would conceal the hairline or most of it. It would be good to even go for wigs that already have some kind of bangs. You can also pop into a salon to get help from professional hairdressers unless you are confident enough to cut your hair cut on your own.
Wispy Cut’s – This is done by having lots of little wispy bits of hair in front of your ears and around your face just as naturally hair does. Similar to baby hair, wigs usually don’t have this. So, you can slice down lightly on the hair on either side of your face. If you’re in doubt to get it done the right way, head to the salon for help. Keep in mind that once you’ve cut your wig, it doesn’t grow back like the hair on your head.
- Thin it Out
It’s usual for new wigs to look bulky and thick around the crown and sides. In this case, it’s recommended that you thin it out yourself or get the assistance of hairdressers on it. At times that you’re on a tight budget and haven’t thinned your wig out, you can style the bulky wig but have the bulky sides, and the top section clipped back.
How To Wear A Wig Properly
- Position It Correctly
You can play your wig at where your natural hairline would be. Do this by raising your eyebrows and notice where the wrinkles stop! For another take on this, a face is generally in three proportions which are: eyebrows to the top of your forward, the bottom of your nose to eyebrows and chin to bottom of your nose. Understanding the proportions would help you measure where your hairline suits with facial proportions. The wig may not look right if it’s a fraction too forward or too far back, it may also make one’s face shape look different.
You can also wear a wig cap. A wig cap is for you to wear under your wig and it costs only a dollar or two. The wig cap would make your wig fit better and would appear more realistic on your head. When wearing the wig cap, you should use bobby pins to secure the wig to the cap, so that the wig won’t cause any odd lumps and bumps on the top of your head.
